“Again the kingdom of heaven is like a man who is a dealer in search of fine and precious pearls, Who, on finding a single pearl of great price, went and sold all he had and bought it” Mat. 13:44, 45 (Amp)

Magazines, news papers and management books are filled with formulas and ideas on how to get the maximum return on investments. Today’s motto of the successful man is ‘maximum profit’. The sober minded merchant in this parable decides to sell all he has and invest on one single pearl of great value. Wise and smart investors invest their time and effort for their investments with hopes of ‘ultimate returns.’ The Bible talks about investing in heaven which is eternal rather than temporary investments on earth. The prophets and apostles, early church fathers, the martyrs, men and women have found the real value of the Kingdom of God and thus invested their lives for the cause. They may not have got the maximum return on earth or their earthly returns may have ended up in a negative balance; but for them the heavenly returns are assured and waiting. Let us take a moment to think ‘where we invest and how?’

When we read the book of Revelations in 8:4 we see ‘the smoke of the incense together with the prayers of the saints went up before God from the angel’s hand’. The tears of the saints are collected in Heaven. What a comfort!

Yes! The time we spend in tearful prayers will never go wasted rather it becomes a fragrant incense in Heaven. Revelations 20: 11 – 15 talks about the reward and in chapter 22:5 we can see that the saints are going to be the future rulers. Where on earth can we find such an opportunity for our investment of time and efforts, where the return is fully assured and where its validity is eternal?

The uniqueness of our Lord’s character is His concern for people to participate in His mission. He calls His church to be part of the great mission that He started on the cross. What a unique opportunity He has given to us to work hand in hand for a great harvest.

Let us praise and thank God for the LTCs which took place at Trivandrum, Mavelikkara, Trichur and Kozhikode. Uphold the student leaders who got trained, to be rooted in the Word of God and to be vessels that are ‘transformed to transform’ as it is stated in our motto “transform students and build the nation”.

With lots of love and prayers.
In His service,
George K Mathew
