State Secretary Writes

“4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. 5 Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. 6 These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. 7 Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. 8 Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. 9 Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates. 10 When the LORD your God brings you into the land he swore to your fathers,… 12 be careful that you do not forget the LORD, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery. Deut 6:4-12”

Moses kept reminding people of Israel about the ways of the Lord while being an effective leader for the people. Verses 4 and 5 are often quoted more often but the verses that follow are important too. Moses used the verbs like ‘impress, talk, tie and write’ to emphasize on the need to remember and to pass on these commandments to the following generations.

Likewise, we are called by our Lord to teach His goodness and faithfulness to the younger generation. Our children need to see the one and only true God in and through our lives. A study in UK reveals that, one of the main causes for the downfall of the UK churches is the negligence of the Sunday schools in churches. Today, our society and the church are going through a lot of changes like never experienced before. Materialism is on the rise and even the church is not immune to it. It so seems that even in the church, amassing wealth and possessions has taken precedence over everything else, losing the very purpose for which it exists. In this context, it becomes imperative that we determine to remain faithful to His teachings, and impress upon our younger generation to remain rooted in the Word. Let us focus more on learning of the Word, and then mentoring. God always kept a remnant that is true to Him, and in this era let us strive to be a part of that remnant of faithful, who would stand to serve and fulfil to purpose of God.
