But the LORD said to me, “Do not say, ‘I am too young.’ You must go to everyone I send you to and say whatever I command you. Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you and will rescue you,” declares the LORD.
Jeremiah, the prophet gets a definite call from the Lord. It is a call to speak ‘whatever the Lord commands to and that too not only to his own community (Jews) but also to the other nations and kingdoms. Thinking of this great responsibility he starts making excuses; that he does not know how to speak and is too young. The Lord assures him by saying that he need not be afraid of his inadequacies because He is with him and will rescue him. When God called Jeremiah, He appointed and anointed him for the task ahead. The Bible tells us very clearly how God protected and used Jeremiah. True to His word the Lord rescued him from every peril and preserved his life.
God’s call to UESI also is similar to that of Jeremiah. He is calling each one of us to go to both Christians and people from other faiths with His word. He is calling us to present the message without any dilution and compromise. God has appointed and anointed us. Like Jeremiah we often feel inadequate and sometimes shy away from the task. We forget that His strength and ability are there for us. David when he faced Goliath never thought of his ability but only focused on His strength and was able to defeat Goliath.
As we are enter the new academic year, the task ahead of us may look unachievable like reaching out to the post modern youth and may feel ill equipped and not know how to communicate the truth. But God is telling us that He is with us and we need not fear anything. He will see us through and we only need to draw the strength from Him. So with that assurance, let us surge forward and proclaim His message to the world.
